As I taught I learned much about how the students felt about themselves and school. My first books capture this in poetry with the voices of both students and teachers.  Throughout these years my relationship to all students, all teachers, all humans, and all life began to touch on the Universal. This has resulted in my latest work, “Journey.”

I truly want to make all my poems available to everyone. So, this web site is your introduction. Please look, read, and use!

Sincerely,
Arden G. Thompson

Neither frogs
nor saints
fear to die –
frogs because
they have no selves
for whom to fear,
and saints because
they no longer have
selves to die.
Somewhere
between these two,
in chains of paradox,
walk you and I. (page 83)

Comment on Watching Ants, etc.

The poems in Watching Ants alternately sing the thoughts of students and teachers. The words are clear, penetrating, and immediately understandable by readers from eight to eighty. The reader understands because the reader has been there. The poet is the singer, but these are your songs.

The National/State Leadership Training Institute on the Gifted and Talented had this to say about the first edition of Watching Ants:
“Collection of poems, written to and for children of all ages, offers a solid foundation upon which to build an effective affective curriculum for the gifted/talented.”

My Series of Books

Watching Ants: Katherine McCleneghen: Ms. “Georgi” Thompson captures the feelings of students and teachers with beautifully chosen words and clear imagery. She is an inspiration for all of us – those who are watching ants, and those who wish they could. A perfect gift for a teacher.  May 8, 2017

The poems in Commitment alternately sing the thoughts of students and teachers about our Earth. The words are clear, penetrating, and immediately understandable by readers from six to ninety-six. You understand because you have been there. The author is the singer, but these are your songs.

A New Box of Crayons is a collection of poems written to and for learners of all ages.  It will be particularly relevant to those in the arts and offers a solid foundation upon which to build an effective affective curriculum.

Lines from Underground is a collection of poems written to and for learners of all ages.  It will be particularly helpful to teachers of language arts and also offers a solid foundation upon which to build an effective affective curriculum.

Watching Ants, Commitment, A New Box of Crayons, Lines from Underground, and Pass It On and Cricket Songs are collections of poems, written to and for readers of all ages.

Journey is my seventh book in a series starting with Watching Ants.  The first six books were about education.  This is a work about mystic revelation and represents the culmination of my life itself.

About “Watching Ants”:

A Perfect Addition to Any Classroom!

Arden Thompson is an impeccable author and has a way of touching the hearts of children through her poetry. I am an educator and introduced her work to my students. Watching Ants is a well loved book, keeping the children engaged and inspired. One child even said, “I love this book so much, I could kiss it!”

I recommend Arden Thompson’s poetry to anyone and everyone!
